This project is the complete reconstruction of a former garage into a grade A office building. One of the many architectural and technical challenges is that it is part of an existing building, which is an old private house, and its façade must remain. With a structure strong enough to sustain additional floors, but with reduced clear height in some locations, Equator removed some floors and beams, without demolishing all, to create a large inner court. Other considerations are wheelchair accessibility and introducing natural light while minimising heat and energy consumption.
In close collaboration with the City of Paris, with the various associations protecting heritage buildings, Equator Paris has developed a concept that maintains the same saleable area (maximum authorized), while making it efficient and allowing for the creation a 1 underground parking level.
Due to the size and complexity of this project, it is considered one of the most important projects in Paris in 2011.
