INDONESIA: Sanofi Office Refurbishment Completed.

In May 2013, Archetype Indonesia was appointed as Designer and Project Manager for Sanofi Office refurbishment project in Jakarta. Sanofi is the world’s largest pharmaceutical firm, with one of its manufacturing facilities located in Indonesia. Archetype’s scope of works included architecture, interior design and M&E engineering.

The existing office complex consisted of two buildings (4 & 7 stories) with the ground floor used as a public area. The upper floors contain office areas and supporting facilities, such as meeting rooms, file rooms, utility rooms, creative rooms, etc. Initially the space configuration was based on closed offices where each section and division were in a separate room, with a lot of space lost by large corridors with little natural light. The objective of the management was to move towards a more modern and open concept.

To meet this objective, the concept design proposed by Archetype was based on semi-open cubicles and open work spaces, in order to promote transparency, communication, creativity and flexibility for future expansion. Although this project was relatively small, the major constraint was to implement the renovation with the building still in activity. The goal to not stop business was a real challenge in terms of phasing, safety, noise/dust control and time delivery. Because of the short demolition and construction time for each floor, Archetype had to define a method of work to move personnel step-by-step through the canteen area, which was adapted as temporary offices.

The renovations also included a new façade, using membrane material that can reduce ultraviolet light by 30%. It also applies a curved shape to give the impression of a dynamic and unique façade, which is a characteristic of many Sanofi buildings today, and the material used in the façade is used rarely in Indonesia.
